SellOrchard

Home & living

Big pieces, long lead times, no guesswork

A sofa is made after it’s bought, weighs sixty kilos and might be ordered by an interior designer for a client. Your store should know all three.

  • Made-to-order
  • Rates by weight
  • ShipStation
  • Trade accounts
  • Personalisation

The weight of it

Homeware stretches every part of an online store

  • Lead times, not stock

Made-to-order pieces never sit on a shelf, so a stock count of zero shouldn’t mean “sold out”.

  • Freight costs vary wildly

A cushion and a dining table can’t share a flat shipping rate without one of them losing you money.

  • Designers buy for clients

Interior designers expect trade prices, tax handled properly and time to pay.

  • Every order is a little custom

Fabric, finish, monogram, a photo of the room — choices that change the price and need to reach the workshop.

How SellOrchard helps

Each tool takes one of those problems off the table

Five features, presented separately. Pick the ones that match how you make and ship.

Made-to-order pre-orders

Part of Products & inventory

Sell what hasn’t been made yet

Keep a made-to-order variant at zero stock and on pre-order, and it stays buyable with your lead time shown.

What you can do

  • A note such as “Made to order — ships in 6–8 weeks” and an expected date
  • Use the pre-order limit as your workshop’s capacity for a batch
  • Pre-order badges on cards and a filter for pre-order orders in the admin

Shipping & fulfillment

Rates that follow the weight

Give each zone weight-based tiers so a lamp and a wardrobe pay what they really cost to move.

What you can do

  • Weight tiers in kilograms, set per zone
  • Free shipping above a basket value, per rate
  • ShipStation order sync, with options and add-ons included on each item
  • Optional live carrier rates from your ShipStation account, with a markup

Trade accounts

Part of Wholesale & B2B

A trade programme for designers

Designers apply on your store’s wholesale page; once approved they buy at trade prices.

What you can do

  • An application form with company and tax ID, approved manually or automatically
  • Trade groups with a percentage off retail or fixed prices per variant
  • Tax-exempt groups, minimum order values and pay-by-invoice terms

Personalisation fields

Part of Products & inventory

Fabric, finish and monogram on the product page

Custom fields capture each choice, add its price and pass it to the order.

What you can do

  • Select or radio options, each with its own price (“Bouclé Oat +$180”)
  • A text field for a monogram, with a character limit
  • File upload for a room photo or floor plan (images or PDF, up to 10 MB)
  • Copy the same fields to other products in one step

Stock across locations

Part of Products & inventory

Showroom and warehouse, one count

Track stock per location and move it between them with transfers.

What you can do

  • Choose which locations count towards online stock
  • Transfers that deduct on dispatch and add on receipt (partial receipts allowed)
  • A movement history for every variant

Worked example

A sofa commission at Oak & Ember

An illustrative furniture workshop with a showroom and a trade programme. Names and figures are made up for illustration.

  1. Day 1

    Choices with prices

A designer picks “Bouclé Oat +$180”, adds a monogram and uploads the client’s floor plan as a PDF.

    Personalisation
  2. Day 1

    Trade price applies

She’s signed in to her approved trade account, so the sofa shows at trade price and her group is tax exempt.

    Trade
  3. Day 1

    Freight by weight

Checkout picks the 50–75 kg tier for her zone; the order shows “Made to order — ships in 8 weeks”.

    Shipping · Pre-orders
  4. Day 2

    Pay by invoice

Her group has 30-day terms, so the order is placed unpaid with a due date and goes into production.

    Trade
  5. Week 8

    Out the door

The order syncs to ShipStation with every option listed; the tracking number flows back and the shipped email goes out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge more for a premium fabric?

Yes. Each option in a select or radio field can carry its own price, added to the unit price and shown live on the product page.

How do I show lead times?

Put the variant on pre-order with a note (“Ships in 6–8 weeks”) and optionally an expected date. It shows on the product page, in the cart and on order emails.

How do I price shipping for heavy items?

Use weight-based rate tiers per zone, with each variant’s weight. If you use ShipStation, you can add live carrier rates at checkout instead of, or alongside, your own rates.

Can trade customers be tax exempt?

Yes. Mark a customer group tax exempt and orders from its members carry no tax.

Can customers send me a photo of their room?

Add a file field to the product. Shoppers can upload an image or PDF up to 10 MB, and your team downloads it from the order page.
